To say I have very little experience with wine, except for consuming it on the weekends, is an understatement. Before this class, I had never been to a tasting, winery or sampled anything other than the basics. I've been to two tastings now and I can't wait to take a trip to a winery! I still don't know much about how to drink wine or what pairings are good, but I can't wait to learn!
I really do enjoy wine. Well, I really enjoy sweet wine. I think the first wine I ever had was a white Zinfandel at my cousin's wedding - I've been hooked ever since. It doesn't matter if I'm drinking just a glass to unwind or finishing a bottle with my friends on movie night, I think wine is the perfect drink for any occasion.
Through out college I've typically stuck to the cheap, sugary wine. I love Moscato, Riesling, Sangria and most sparkling wines. I actually find it funny that I enjoy these so much since I was never raised on sodas or lots of juice when I was little. I only started drinking these beverages in high school and not too frequently either. That being said, I really, really dislike most red wines. I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that you drink them warm or if they have too much of an earthy flavor that puts me off, but I just can't seem to accept them.
Throughout this course I hope to discover how to appreciate red wines and develop a more sophisticated pallet. I want to learn how to pair wines with food and recognize how it affects the taste. I am very excited to finally be able to take this course and can't wait to see what I learn!
